20 Mar Product Proposal and Calendar

Introduction and Statement of Purpose

As it was my original goal to utilize this year in ISM to explore the depths of the entrepreneurial tech industries through the means of web development and peripheral services alongside, I plan to execute this concept by doing what I am most interested in when creating my final product. Through the guidance of my mentor, the Founder and CEO of Osky Blue, Mr. Jon Kendall, my engineering lab professor, Dr. Steven Foland, and my personal freelance client, Mrs. Kiki Wang, it is my intention to create multiple websites as my final product for their organizations in the month of May, and to be debuted at Final Presentation Night. I will be assuming the role of a web developer, designing, managing, and maintaining the front-end and the backend of websites while learning the process of how business organizations work and how solopreneurs can succeed in delivering products and communicating with clients.

I will accomplish so by working as an intern every week at Jon Kendall’s company focusing on client work regarding modifying WordPress web pages, generating clients’ contents, and running social media campaigns. Moreover, I will attend Dr. Foland’s engineering lab every week and discuss how he would like his lab’s website to be built using React Redux, learn the coding language of Javascript CS6 on my own, and ultimately make his website from scratch delivering the new web concept. Furthermore, I will create and maintain my freelance client Kiki’s Fashion design side and boost the traffic of her site through Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and social media marketing. On the other hand, I will focus on my own personal sites of Jessy.io by continuously blogging every month to gain an online present. I will concentrate on applying SEO strategies for this site as well. Ultimately, the purpose of creating multiple websites is to utilize all of the research, experience, skill sets, and networks I have acquired over this year in interacting with real-world professionals and combine them into a digital product that I can showcase on my personal website and resume.

Review of Skills and Research

The skills that will be instrumental in the creation of my product include WordPress, React Redux, UI/UX, Search Engine Optimization, and Digital Marketing. WordPress is an open-source platform that allows anyone to create websites with templates and plugins. React Redux is a new web concept and coding protocol developed by Facebook to create an app like features on websites using the existing language of Javascript CS6. UI/UX (User Experience and User Interface) is the design concept of enhancing user experience with a product by improving the usability, accessibility, and pleasure provided in the interaction with a product (e.g. websites). SEO, Search Engine Optimization, is a strategy that by generating contents that match with what the users are searching for (tag, title, URL, keywords in content) on a search engine, the web page could be ranked higher on the search result, therefore gaining more traffic. Digital Marketing is the strategy to utilize the existing social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Medium, LinkedIn, etc.am able to) to build an online reputation, create followers to generate traffic, and ultimately gaining revenue by converting those fans to buyers.

All the above are important in terms of creating websites and their content, maintaining and updating functions, and growing them to generate traffic and revenue. So far, I have had a decent amount of exposure with WordPress through the various websites I have built. I also know some things about UI/UX, SEO. I lack enough exposure on Digital Marketing and React Redux. I will learn further advanced knowledge about WordPress, Digital Marketing, and SEO by interning at my mentor’s company and doing client work for Kiki Wang. I will learn about UI/UX and React Redux by taking online courses and physically implementing those skills on Dr. Foland’s engineering lab website.

Methodology

Regarding achieving a comprehensive understanding of the web development and through professional experience, I attend my mentor’s company every week for approximately 10 hours to get a hands-on experience with the areas of Digital Marketing, Content Curation, Advanced Web Design and Development with WordPress, Search Engine Optimization, and tech entrepreneurship through working on client projects and learning the flow of team and management. So far, I have completed the tasks of writing editorial calendars, finding broken links, fixing and updating web pages, updating products, creating videos blogs, creating new websites from scratch. Moreover, by interacting with my mentor, I get to hear his feedback on my work and explore the conceptual aspects of web development and entrepreneurship. Further this week, I will take on parts of the project of migrating and renewing the Frisco Style Magazine’s site.

On the other hand, as a volunteer at my engineering lab, I will explore the concept of the new web by learning the programming language from scratch and building the engineering lab’s (TSoG) website. I will learn to code JavaScript CS6 to implement React Redux on my free time online, and ask web development professionals questions during my time at the lab on Saturdays. Once I have enough knowledge to build a site, I will discuss what the final product looks like and should contain function-wise with Dr. Foland, and execute the vision with several other team members to complete this project.

Furthermore, by signing a contract with my freelance client Kiki Wang, I will be taking over her eCommerce site for her fashion designs and be in full control of her website function upgrade, maintenance, Search Engine Optimization, and Social Media Marketing (editing videos and posting posts) by completing her designated tasks through the cooperation of other professionals.

Lastly, I will continue to blog on my personal website for the sake of gaining an online presence and eventually earning money through affiliate programs through targeting specific keywords. Moreover, I will be embedding my portfolio of the final product on my personal site to showcase my progress this year as the last touch to the project.

Conclusions

The apparent effect of completing my original product for Osky Blue and Jon Kendall will be beneficial for all his company’s clients regarding presenting their services and products boosting the amount of organic traffic to their site. Further, the increasing business opportunities at Osky Blue signifies my potential impact to reach a large variety of clients anywhere from professional pest control service to real-estate investors, thus gaining exposure to various professional business fields while serving these local businesses. My goal for such is to ultimately gain an opportunity for potential future employment during my time in college, to learn the process in a professional environment further and to earn an income as the starting fund for my future ventures.

By building Dr. Foland’s site for his non-profit organization TSoG, several things will happen. Firstly, people who do not have the prior knowledge of the organization can quickly understand what the organization is and how they can get involved in the opportunity for their children (as an engineering mentorship student) or organization (e.g. Girl Scouts) through for example, our embedded virtual tour of the lab on the site. Secondly, it will be a user-friendly medium for those who want to attend the SBEE and SABE sessions (biomedical engineering camps at UT Dallas) this summer. Thirdly, it will be easier for the current engineering mentorship students to navigate and access their learning targets and materials for DC Sensors and Actuators, Static Analysis and Mechanical Fabrication, Data and Control Structures, Applied Reaction Chemistry, Physiological Systems and Bio-signals, Additive and Subtractive Manufacturing, Thermodynamics, Embedded Systems, Biomechanics and AC Signals and Filters. Fourthly, the site will also become a platform showcasing the students’ achievements at the lab in those areas of engineering studies. Fifthly, the site will become a platform showcasing the research projects and papers published by the lab professionals. Lastly, the site will serve as a medium receiving donation and selling promotional products to raise funds.

By serving my client Kiki Wang with her fashion design website and socialcanhelp her to achieve her mission of making runway clothes wearable and make every person feel like a celebrity in his or her life. I will also help her to further her venture in the fashion industry visible in the international market and achieve a greater visibility to a wider audience.

Lastly, by blogging about relevant subjects in the topics of travel hacking, college, and being a digital nomad on my personal website, I can attract other like-minded individuals around the world and provide insightful knowledge and advice to their interests and pursuits. This concept has worked out as my audience reached out to me and we have established mutually beneficial relationships. On the other hand, I was able to influence my friends about these subjects and join the journey with me. Upon the completion of my final product, I will display them as a digital profile on my blog. My hope is to become a thought leader in those industries and build my online authority as I progress in my future journey as a serial entrepreneur.

In summation, the result will be to successfully deliver satisfactory work for those people and their represented organizations, create a portfolio showcasing my real-world credentials for future jobs and ventures, and furthering my knowledge in the areas of WordPress, React Redux, UI/UX, Search Engine Optimization, Digital Marketing, and Tech-Entrepreneurship with bootstrapping and small business organization. My ultimate goal is to prepare my skills to bootstrap a company related to those areas anytime, and have a backup on my portfolio by providing services for personal and business digital solutions if my business fails to be able to gain online clients when I become a digital nomad.
